Does your site block ChatGPT?
Whether your server lets AI assistants' bots in. robots.txt is only a request — bot protection blocks silently, and the site looks fine in a browser.
We ask your homepage as a browser and as each AI bot, and read robots.txt.
Isn't robots.txt enough?
No. robots.txt is a request. A firewall or a CDN's “block AI bots” rule answers bots with an error while the site looks fine in a browser — so we ask your server as each bot and compare with a browser.
Why can the result say “could not check”?
If the server refuses a normal browser too, a refusal to a bot proves nothing about bots. We say so instead of guessing.
Should I block GPTBot?
That is your choice. OpenAI says GPTBot crawls content that may be used to train its models; ChatGPT search uses OAI-SearchBot, and blocking GPTBot does not remove you from ChatGPT search.
